Beaconsfield v AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 on Sun 09 Aug 2009 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Won 4 wickets

Match report Amersham earned a hard fought victory over Beaconsfield to progress to the semi-finals of the Bucks Cup. Beaconsfield won the toss and elected to bat first on a slow wicket offering assistance to the seam bowlers. An early wicket for Matt Mackay lifted the visitors but a powerful counter-attack by Cousins (32) gave Beaconsfield a strong start. However, off-spinner Abhay Mayer (9-2-29-2) turned the game for Amersham with a fine spell of off-spin. The pressure created by his first asphyxiating maiden over created the opportunity for Andy Viney to brilliantly run out Cousins, with Mayer then grabbing two further wickets. Thereafter, tight bowling and fielding earned regular wickets as Beaconsfield were bowled out well their 45 overs. Young seamer Stuart Rogers impressed with a mature second spell.

Any hopes Amersham may have held of an easy chase were dashed by the performance of the Beaconsfield new-ball bowlers who extracted extravagant seam movement from a full length to grab three early wickets. The innings was calmly rebuilt by the experienced Luke Jackson (65) who rotated the strike skillfully in partnership with Olly Haddock (20) and Mayer (15). As the target neared Jackson opened up with a flurry of boundaries to take the game away from a determined Beaconsfield and secure a fine win for Amersham.
