AMERSHAM CC Saturday 3rd X1 v Ickenham 3 on Sat 02 Aug 2025 at 12:30
AMERSHAM CC Lost by 5 wickets

Match report A game of small margins, but for once we didn't have enough runs but were unlucky not to pick up more wickets along the way.

Losing the toss (again) and being put into bat; the overcast conditions saw the ball moving around a bit and early wickets meant the home team were always a little behind the game. The skipper dragged on one 5th ball, quickly followed by Max T being caught in front with a big in-ducker the next ball, and whilst Gerber batted sensibly, before a top edge to square leg saw the end of him, it was up to Fleming Jnr and Copley to bat sensibly and take some heat out of the game - which they did admirably. Fleming's resolve eventually ended when the opening spell ended, however debutant Treadwell and Copley continued to build on this foundation, and respectability in the score began to develop, until Treadwell was unluckily caught by the big chap at first slip. Chahal joined Copley and further respectability was gained, however Chahal's departure was quickly followed by Copley's steady, composed and innings saving 72. Amersham ended frustratingly 1 run shy of the final batting point at 199, but better than expected from 3 for 25.

The return innings started well, 2 wickets in the first 9 balls, however that was about it until a further 150 runs were put on the board. That sounds kind of one way traffic, however there were plenty of plays and misses, half chances and one blindly plumb LBW not given - which could've been a game changer given the partnership that followed. Thomas finally broke the partnership, and swiftly followed with a further wicket and Ickenham began to falter as the nerves set it. However, Patel came to the wicket and hit a couple of big ones that ended proceedings and any hope that had began to surface.

Overall, never quite had enough runs - however we generally bowled well with little extras. Fielding was also good, however we needed a little more luck in the field and if anything, we need to learn to stay in the game - one wicket changed the direction of this match, however it was a little too late.
