AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 v Tring Park on Sat 07 May 2022 at 11:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Amersham Win Nail Biter to Start the Season
Tring Park traveled to Shardeloes on a slightly damp and overcast morning. Amersham (as is traditional by now) only had 4 players at the ground when the opposition arrived to start their warm up.
Amersham won the toss and put Tring in on what turned out to be a rather good batting wicket. Helm in his first game back from wrist surgery started things off. Wide ball. Things seemed to be going Amersham’s way until the 5th over which lasted 11 balls and went for 20 runs. Choudhry (109*) and Rolfe (73) kept the scoreboard ticking over and reached drinks at 91-0. From an excellent start, the Tring openers didn’t appear up the impetus and at the 40 over mark had put on 180. Payne made the break through in the next over removing Rolfe LBW. Lines (2-40), Payne (2-40) and Madhuka bowled well to restrict the final 10 overs to just 63 runs.
Tring ended 243-5 from their 50 overs but considering the start they had, this was probably 30-40 runs short of where they would have liked.
Amersham’s reply got off to a slightly different start as both openers were removed by the time they had reached 7 overs. Payne and R Viney came together to steady the ship putting on 58 for the 3rd wicket. At the end of 14 overs Amersham where ahead of the rate but had just lost Viney (21). Payne continued to score quickly including towering 6 into the wheat field over extra cover. At drinks the score was 114-4 with Payne back in the hutch after a very good 54. A Viney struggled to get going and fell a few overs after drinks and Tring would have rightly felt on top of the contest. However Chialoufas and Madhuka batted exceptionally well and put Amersham back in the driving seat. With the score on 206-5 momentum sung back in favour of the visitors as a freak run out saw Chialoufas on his way. Madhuka tracked the spin of Criddle and smoked one straight only for the ball to clip the bowlers spikes on the way through to the stumps. Chialoufas inches short of his ground.
This led to 2 more quick wickets as Madhuka was bowled for 65 by the impressive Gurnett. Rogers went the following ball to a top edged pull shot. With just two wickets left and 37 runs left to get we were all in for a nervy conclusion. Helm joined Harsh at the crease. These two batted sensibly knowing they had plenty of time to score the runs.
In the 48th over the young Harsh on 1st debut hit one down the ground to win the game. Much to the enjoyment of the on watching members.
