Match report Amersham sank bottom-of-the-table Fleet on Saturday at Shardeloes to move up to third in the Division Two table.

Star of the show was Tim Aylott who finished with figures of 6-24 off 14 overs, with three maidens.

On Saturday, Fleet had made a promising start and were 79-1 before the introduction of Aylott scuppered their chances. He soon found an accurate line and length and was well supported by Mustapha Rajabali who took 3-39. Sam Martin claimed the other scalp as Fleet were dismissed for 132.

In reply, Amersham lost an early wicket when RD Patel went lbw for seven with 17 runs on the board, but they always looked like reaching their target against an ineffectual Fleet attack.

Suresh Perumal joined opener Peter Butler to rattle up 116 with some glorious strokeplay, averaging more than five runs an over.

Fleet’s only hope was a very attacking field … but three slips and a gully proved suicidal as the Amersham men hit out at everything, leaving fielders red-faced.

Perumal, whose six to the pavilion in the 12th over rocketed Amersham past their halfway target, should have been caught going for a four in the 15th over. Instead, with his next ball he notched his 50 with a cover drive for two. Perumal swept Amersham to 100 in the next over.

This was followed by a mighty six from Butler. After being dropped in the 19th over – by the same fielder who dropped Perumal – Butler punched out a four, leaving Amersham needing four runs to win in the next over. Perumal obliged with the second ball, as Amersham picked up 20 points with 30 overs to spare.
